An extraordinary and highly unusual piece of modern history, this is a genuine fragment of Trinitite — atomic bomb glass formed during the first nuclear explosion.
This material was created at the Trinity test site in New Mexico, USA, on 16th July 1945, when the world’s first atomic bomb was detonated. The intense heat of the blast fused the desert sand into a green glass-like substance now known as Trinitite.
Trinitite is usually a pale green, glassy material, often with a smooth surface on one side and a more natural, sandy texture on the other — formed as molten material cooled rapidly after the explosion.
Material like this is now increasingly difficult to obtain, as collecting from the original site is no longer permitted. Most available pieces were recovered decades ago, making genuine specimens like this both rare and highly collectable.
Each fragment is completely unique in shape, texture and colour — a small but powerful reminder of a defining moment in modern history.
