Meteorite FAQ
Are these real meteorites?
Yes. Every meteorite used in our jewellery is a genuine meteorite that has been scientifically identified and sourced from reputable suppliers. Each pendant is supplied with a signed Certificate of Authenticity confirming the meteorite's identity and origin.
I have been buying and selling meteorites for more than twenty years, and only ever buy genuine meteorites.
Most are bought from members of the IMCA – the International Meteorite Collectors Association
I am member 0079 of the GMA – the Global Meteorite Association and also BIMS – the UK and Irish Meteorite Society and abide by the rules of these associations.
Can you wear meteorites every day?
Yes. Most of our meteorite pendants are designed for everyday wear. Many meteorites are naturally strong and have survived a remarkable journey through space before reaching Earth. As with any fine jewellery, we recommend removing your pendant during heavy manual work or when swimming in chlorinated water to help keep it looking its best.
Will meteorites rust?
Some iron meteorites can develop surface oxidation if they are repeatedly exposed to moisture for long periods. To protect them, our iron meteorite pendants are either sealed, treated or carefully finished. Simply keeping your jewellery dry when possible and storing it in its presentation box will help preserve its appearance for many years.
Are meteorite necklaces magnetic?
It depends on the type of meteorite. Iron meteorites, such as Campo del Cielo and Aletai, contain nickel-iron and are usually attracted to a magnet. But the amounts in a piece of jewellery are usually too small to generate any REAL magnetic attraction.
Stone meteorites and lunar meteorites generally contain much less metal and usually show no magnetic attraction.
Are meteorite pendants rare?
Yes. Genuine meteorites are far rarer than gold, diamonds or most gemstones. They are fragments of asteroids or other planetary bodies that have travelled through space for billions of years before landing on Earth. Because only a limited amount of genuine meteorite material exists, every meteorite pendant is a truly unique piece of natural history.
How old are meteorites?
Most meteorites are around 4.5 billion years old, making them among the oldest materials you can hold in your hand. They formed during the birth of our Solar System, long before the Earth itself had fully developed. Wearing a meteorite pendant means carrying a genuine fragment of the early Solar System.
Are meteorites radioactive?
No. Genuine meteorites are perfectly safe to wear and are not dangerously radioactive. Although meteorites contain naturally occurring trace elements, their radiation levels are no different from many ordinary rocks found on Earth and present no health risk.
Can meteorite jewellery get wet?
Occasional contact with water, such as rain, is unlikely to cause any problems. However, we recommend removing your meteorite jewellery before showering, swimming or soaking in water for extended periods, particularly if it contains iron meteorite. Keeping the pendant dry will help maintain its appearance and longevity.
What certificate do they come with?
Every meteorite pendant is supplied with a signed Certificate of Authenticity confirming that the meteorite is genuine. Each certificate includes a unique holographic serial number for added security and verification. Your jewellery also arrives in a luxury presentation box together with our exclusive full-colour meteorite information booklet.
