Fordite is a beautiful substance, but neither natural nor old.
It is actually built-up paint residue from the paint-shops at Ford car plants.
It really is the most beautiful substance, and when cut and polished it reveals the coloured layers of paint that have built up on the floors and walls of the paint shop.
I must point out that this really is a rare and sought after substance
I bought a supply a while back , and since then the supplies have almost totally dried up.
As cars are painted in a different way nowadays there will never be any Fordite once current supplies run out.
That really WILL be it!
This pendant is made with USA Fordite - and has the most amazing and varied colour palette
The UK Dagenham Fordite which is sadly no longer available had a more muted range of colours.
Stunning in its own way, but not as varied as the US Fordite.
These are the BEST cabochons I have ever used, and I doubt they will be available for long....
This is a large necklace and measures
5cm top to bottom and 2.9cm at it's widest point.
Another thing that makes this piece so special is that the Fordite as an amazing textured surface
I have added an extra image to try and show this
It has been cut from the outer surface of a piece of rough Fordite and has an incredible bubbled swirling 3D surface
Looks amazing in person!
The bezel around the edge is serrated and gives and intriguing extra character and shimmer to the setting.
The pendant is strung from an 18 inch Sterling silver snake chain and sent in a padded jewellery box.
and is complete with a signed certificate of authenticity.
