This really is a unique material.
I am guessing that very few of you will be familiar with Fordite.
This is in the One-offs section as it does NOT belong in the fossil or meteorite sections.
Fordite is a beautiful substance, but neither natural nor old.
Fordite is actually built-up paint residue from the paint-shops at Ford car plants.
I am NOT joking!
It really is the most beautiful substance, and when cut and polished it reveals the coloured layers of paint that have built up on the floors and walls of the paint shop.
I must point out that this really is a rare and sought after substance.
I bought a supply a while back , and since then the supplies have almost totally dried up.
As cars are painted in a different way nowadays there will never be any Fordite once current supplies run out.
That really WILL be it!
These earrings were made with Dagenham Fordite from the UK Ford plant.
Dagenham Fordite tends to have fewer colours than US Fordite but some consider it to be higher quality.
It has been described as the Gold standard in Fordite.
These earrings are made with two matching rectangular cabochons. Every piece of Fordite is unique so they aren't totally identical but cut from the same rough piece of Fordite.
The earrings measure 2.3cm from top to bottom and are strung from silver plate earrings and sent in a lovely black, velvet lined jewellery box.
UNIQUE AND RARE!
