Expectant mums don’t have to sacrifice style!

Time was maternity fashion consisted of such dull, shapeless clothes that expectant mums would have probably looked more stylish wearing a bin bag! In the past women were expected to cover up there bumps in unsexy, oversized house dresses that resembled accommodation for a camping weekend. Thankfully times have changed, and over the last decade the fashion world has responded to women’s desire to remain trendy and shown that it is possible to look and feel attractive and stylish during their pregnancy.

Maintaining your style throughout pregnancy is all about working with the tastes you already have. Just because you’re expecting a baby doesn’t mean you should be expected to change your fashion sense, so if you wouldn’t normally wear that moo-moo dress then why start now? However, there is the small matter of that bump. Whilst you may be able to squeeze into regular clothes during the earlier months, as time goes on this is just not going to be possible. Instead, start embracing the fact that there has never been more fashion choice in maternity clothes to suit you.

Half of the battle with finding stylish maternity clothes can be knowing just where to look. There is a wealth of modish styles out there available, and while you may not want to think about pregnancy fashions in the early months, doing your research in advance will mean that when the time comes you will be fully prepared to look super stylish. As a starting point it’s worth asking family and friends who have had a baby recently where they purchased their clothes. If you have similar style, they may even have items that they can pass onto you which can save you money.

Though your body may be changing, modern attitudes towards pregnancy fashion have meant there are some things you can still rely on. Pretty much every high street shop now has its own line in maternity wear, so one way to find clothes that suit your style is to head for the stores you like best. New Look, for example, now offers a broad range of roomier designs that are all en vogue this season. Try them for maternity clothes.  Along with the recent trend of celebrity clothing ranges, many high street stores will also offer designer maternity pieces in their collection.

When thinking about what items to purchase, the key is to mix some classic staple styles with trendier dressy designs that will allow you to still feel glamorous. Fashion must-haves include a good pair of well-fitting jeans (elasticated waist band optional!), and an ever-stylish little black dress. Don’t forget lingerie too, you should still feel fabulously sexy in your new body!

Improvements in pregnancy fashion have meant that comfort no longer has to overrule style when it comes to choosing maternity clothes, so get that yummy mummy look down to a tee and make the most of the abundance of designs available.
