Though we may all still be recovering from the ‘big freeze’, springtime is definitely afoot, and with it comes a welcome opportunity to rejuvenate the soul and the wardrobe. After the gloomiest of weather and depressing economic situation, we are all looking forward to a change in climate with eager anticipation. Fortunately, it seems that spring is set to bring some refreshing and inspiring trends that are sure to lift even the darkest of spirits. Here’s a little sneak preview of some of the feel-good fashions that are on offer this season.
Normally spring signifies floaty florals and femininity, however, perhaps in response to the current financial climate; the key looks for this year are much more toned down. Instead, this spring styles are about utility and wearability with clean lines and functional fabrics. Khaki is set to make a big comeback with the return of the military look, so keep an eye out for pocket shirt dresses, belts and buckles, and comfortable cargo pants.
Continuing the fashion meets function trend, spring looks forward to the return of denim. Yes, yes, we know it never went away, but the fashion world predicts that this year we’ll be wearing it head to toe! Sounds like an 80’s fashion car crash? We’ll thankfully there are some key separates to choose from if you don’t want to risk denim-on-denim. Ripped jeans are a must have, and we’ll be pleased to know we can all breathe a little easier as looser, more comfortable styles will take the place of skinny jeans. Whilst there are some more feminine touches this season, they are to be found within the block pastel shades and caramel beige tones of the underwear as outerwear craze. If there are floral patterns they will be bolder prints that are kept under control with simple statement jewellery and elegant flats. As part of the wearable trend, we will be encouraged to economize on our clothes and make the most of our wardrobes by mixing our sparkly items with more casual day wear. So don’t just save those glam pieces for a special occasion, brighten up basic tops and trousers with a smarter jacket or dressy cardigan.
